The exam’s rules, in brief
On the SSAT Upper Level exam, scored multiple-choice questions earn +1 when correct, 0 when omitted, and −¼ when incorrect. Raw scores are then converted to scaled scores and percentiles through equating — a statistical process tied to each test form. The Writing Sample is unscored (schools receive it), and each form carries an unscored experimental section.
What RichiePrep shows
RichiePrep applies the same +1 / 0 / −¼ raw arithmetic to your practice answers and reports it as RichiePrep Practice Performance: raw score, correct/incorrect/omitted counts, accuracy, section detail, and per-type breakdowns. We deliberately do not estimate scaled scores or percentiles — those depend on equating data only the test maker has, and a made-up conversion would mislead you.
What the penalty means for strategy
The −¼ penalty makes blind guessing on five choices score-neutral in expectation — and eliminating even one choice makes guessing favorable. That is why the RichiePrep player includes a choice-elimination control: practicing the elimination habit is practicing the score.
