Children's Privacy

Last updated: October 6, 2026
Draft for beta. This document is under legal review and will be finalized before paid access opens. It reflects how the service actually works today.

Almost everyone who takes the SSAT or the ISEE is a minor. This notice sets out the extra protections that come with that, and it applies alongside the Privacy Policy rather than replacing it.

The one rule that matters

Below the age of digital consent where a student lives, a parent or guardian must give permission before we record any practice work. Not after the first test — before it. Until permission arrives, the account exists but cannot start a test, and there is nothing to report on because nothing has been collected.

The age we apply

The age varies by country, so we ask where you live and apply the local rule rather than one global guess:

We work from the year of birth alone, and we always take the younger reading of it: a student who turns 14 later this year is treated as 13 for the whole year. Erring in that direction costs a family one email and protects the student who needs it.

How permission is obtained

Today every account is opened by a parent or guardian, so there is one route. The route a student opens for themselves is built but not open; if it opens, this notice will describe it before it does.

A guardian opens the account

The guardian confirms they are the parent or legal guardian, accepts the policies, and adds a profile for each student. Their permission is recorded at that moment, with the policy version and timestamp, because they gave it themselves in their own signed-in session.

What a guardian is agreeing to

For a student under the local age, we collect and process:

  • A display name they choose — a nickname is fine, and we ask for no legal name.
  • The year they were born. Never a full date of birth.
  • Their email address, for signing in and for service messages.
  • Their answers, timings and flags on practice tests, and the reports built from them.

And, for those students specifically, we do not:

  • Send marketing email — the opt-in is not offered, and any earlier answer to it is discarded.
  • Run advertising trackers, behavioral profiling, or third-party analytics.
  • Disclose their information to anyone beyond the processors named in the Privacy Policy.
  • Condition access on giving us more data than the service actually needs.

Withdrawing permission

A guardian can withdraw permission at any time — from the Account page if they hold the account, or by writing to privacy@richieprep.com from the address that gave it. Withdrawal takes effect immediately: testing stops that moment. A guardian may also ask us to delete everything held for that student, and we do so without asking for a reason and without charge.

Children and the help assistant

The Help button on our public pages opens an automated help assistant — a computer program, not a person. It never asks for personal information, and before anyone starts it says not to type a name, email, school or where they live.

  • A signed-in student below the age of digital consent gets a chat that is not linked to their profile and is deleted within a day.
  • If the assistant learns it is talking to a child under 13, it stops keeping the chat — it is unlinked from any account and deleted within a day — and suggests asking a parent or guardian to contact us.
  • The Contact page asks children under 13 to have a parent or guardian write to us instead.
  • A parent or guardian can ask us to delete any chat or message from their child at privacy@richieprep.com, and we do so without asking for a reason.

For students, in plain words: the help button is a computer program, not a person. It can be wrong. Don’t tell it your name, email, school or where you live. If you need help with your account, ask a parent to contact us.

More on what the assistant processes and for how long is in the Privacy Policy.

Schools and tutors

Where a school or tutoring center sets up accounts for students, the institution tells us it has obtained parental permission under its own arrangements, and we record that confirmation the same way we record a parent’s. That does not move our responsibilities: RichiePrep remains the operator, the same collection limits, deletion rights and withdrawal route apply, and a parent may contact us directly at any time.

If a mistake happens

If we learn that we have collected data from a student under the local age without proper permission, we stop processing it and delete it. If you believe that has happened, tell us at privacy@richieprep.com and we will act on it rather than argue about it.
